Historic Murphysburg
Robert Cooper & Mary Walsh House
123 South Moffet Avenue circa 1900 Gable-Front
Story
Robert C. Walsh (1863-1911) and Mary Ford Walsh (1865-1918) were the first owners associated with this circa 1900 gable-front house at 123 South Moffet Avenue. The Walsh family lived here with their seven children, making the house part of the dense family and neighborhood life that shaped early Murphysburg. Its form, address, and ownership history help connect the building to the district's turn-of-the-century residential growth, when modest and substantial homes stood near one another within walking distance of Joplin's commercial and civic core. More research can still add builder information, later occupants, and preservation history, but the existing record already gives visitors a clear starting point for understanding the house as a family residence within the historic neighborhood.
